What's on our minds

The Tarot of Storytelling

A longtime favourite, Laura Marling, recently released a new album, Patterns in Repeat, which had my memories welling up in my eyes and rolling down my cheeks. (She always seems to write a feeling into existence I didn't realize I was ignoring.)

In a previous post, I mentioned tarot as a tool of self-reflection, and have recently found myself reflecting on its place in the storytelling of my self to myself.

As an act of daily introspection, each morning I stand at my mini-shrine atop my cabinet of cult (well, it's mainly my dresser of clothing), and I shuffle my Uusi tarot set, cut the deck, and draw my card for the day. To contemplate, to meditate on, to gain a little insight or encouragement, perhaps a little guidance, or maybe a bit of it all.

If your new to tarot and interested in learning about it, I would recommend Learning the Tarot, which offers a free course, as well as a quick write-up on each of the cards to reference. You may also enjoy reading through the Fool's Journey, which takes you on the journey of life via the Major Arcana.

And if you enjoy a good bit of introspection, prose, and an bit of tarot then you might really enjoy Laura's substack, also titled Patterns in Repeat. (She's got a lot more to say than myself, and is much more eloquent, to say the very least.)

Here is a good place to start: The Tarot of Songwriting.

Whatever your taste, I hope you have (or find) a handful of favourite rituals, poets, and muses that connect you to your self, and offer remembrances of who you truly are.
